Breast feeding

Breastfeeding is one of the best choices you can make for the development and well-being of your child, and indeed for yourself, as it offers many health benefits to mums too!

Local advice and support for breastfeeding mothers

La Leche League is an international organisation founded to give information and encouragement, mainly through personal help, to all mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. Through a national network of volunteers it provides information and support by telephone and e-mail and provides opportunities for local discussion meetings of mothers. LLLGB offers a wide range of books, leaflets and magazines of interest to parents and health professionals. Advice and help is free but mothers may become members for an annual subscription and receive bi-monthly magazines. LLLGB also runs training programmes in areas with low breastfeeding rates to train local mothers, often health visitors and midwives, to offer help and support on breastfeeding to other local mums.
